Tesla Robotaxi Earnings Calculator

Owners keep hearing their Tesla will earn money while they sleep once it joins the Robotaxi network. Tesla has published no owner pay rate, no revenue share, and no eligibility list — so this free calculator runs your assumptions instead, with every default labeled by where it came from.

Nobody knows what owners will earn

Tesla has not published what owners will earn. No pay rate. No revenue share. No eligibility list. Nobody knows — including us. This page runs YOUR assumptions and labels where every default came from, so you can see what would have to be true for the hype numbers to work.

Texas robotaxi fleet — the scoreboard so far

Texas DMV registry via public trackers, as of Oct 23, 2026.

813Tesla robotaxis registered in Texas
451Cybercabs
362Model Ys

Paid rides are live in Austin (geofenced) since Sep 3, 2026; Dallas launches next. Registered means authorized to operate — not proof every car is in service today.

Musk's 2019 framing: owners keep 70–80%. Tesla has confirmed nothing since.

Robotaxi mileage can hit ~100,000 miles a year
How it works: monthly fares = rides/day × average fare × days on the network. Tesla's cut and the running costs you enter are subtracted. It does not include a car payment, income tax, or depreciation — at robotaxi mileage, depreciation is a real cost, so treat net as a best-case operating number.

What we actually know (October 2026)

Paid Cybercab rides are live in Austin, in a geofenced area, since Sep 3, 2026 — every one of those cars is owned and operated by Tesla. On Tesla's Oct 21, 2026 earnings call, engineering VP Lars Moravy said Tesla is “trying to get Cybercabs to customers by the end of 2026,” starting small, while Musk said the vast majority of Cybercabs will stay Tesla-owned. AI chief Ashok Elluswamy said customer-owned cars could join the fleet “somewhere around Q2 2027” — geofenced, Tesla-managed, in select areas, with San Antonio named among the early markets. Observed rider pricing in Dallas runs about $0.75 per mile, roughly half of Waymo's. That is the full list of hard facts. Everything else about owner earnings is somebody's model — including the defaults in the calculator above.

What Tesla hasn't told owners

No pay rate. No revenue share. No eligibility list. No insurance terms. The famous “owners keep 70–80%” line comes from Musk's 2019 Autonomy Day presentation — it is more than six years old and has never been restated as program terms, a contract, or a signup page. Any site stating owner earnings as fact is guessing. The estimates floating around — roughly $425–$1,500 a month net for a Model Y — are scenario models built on assumed fares, assumed splits, and assumed costs. They are useful for planning what might be true. They are not Tesla numbers, and neither is anything this calculator produces. When Tesla publishes real owner terms, this page will say so at the top.

The costs the hype skips

Cleaning. Fleet robotaxis get cleaned two to three times a day at fleet intensity. Riders spill, get sick, and leave trash; a car that smells does not stay on the network. Mileage. A hard-working robotaxi can pile up around 100,000 miles a year — tires, brakes, and suspension wear at several times the normal rate, and the basic warranty (4 years / 50,000 miles) is gone inside the first year. Insurance. Personal auto policies exclude commercial ride-hailing use, and no owner robotaxi insurance product has been priced yet — the $200/month in the calculator is a placeholder, not a quote. FSD. For new buyers, FSD has been subscription-only since Feb 14, 2026 at $99/month; a used car whose prior owner purchased FSD outright keeps it without the monthly fee — a real shopping detail if you are buying a car for this. Downtime. Every hour spent charging, cleaning, or waiting is an hour earning nothing. And if you want the full-service version of readiness, it already has a market price: fleet-services company MAT Co. charges owners $2,375 per vehicle per month for a depot package covering cleaning, charging, secure parking, and servicing. That is what hands-off costs today.

Robotaxi Readiness Service — San Antonio

A robotaxi earns nothing while it sits dirty, uncharged, or waiting on a tire. When San Antonio owners join the network — Tesla’s stated target is around Q2 2027 — every car out there will need cleaning, charging, and upkeep every day. We are building the local crew for that now, before the door opens.

How it works: owners book a readiness visit (interior reset, wash, charge, quick check) through this site. Vetted local detailers and cleaners do the work, at the owner’s home or lot. Owners get a car that is ready to earn; providers get steady jobs without hunting for customers.

You’re on the list. We’ll email you when booking opens — no spam, nothing else.

Own a Tesla? Get on the list.

Founding owners get first booking access when the service launches in San Antonio, and early pricing locked in.

Clean cars? Get the jobs.

Detailers and mobile cleaners: apply now and be first in line for bookings when we launch. No fees to join the provider list.

Optional — job offers move faster by text

Service launches alongside Tesla’s owner opt-in in San Antonio. Joining either list is free and non-binding. We only email you about this service — we never sell your information.

Tesla robotaxi questions, answered

How much can a Tesla owner make on the Robotaxi network?

Tesla has not published owner pay. Public scenario models for a Model Y range roughly $425–$1,500/month net under stated assumptions; treat all of them as hypotheticals and run your own above.

When can owners put their cars on the network?

Tesla's AI chief said “we suspect somewhere around Q2 2027” for the first customer vehicles — geofenced, Tesla-managed, select areas. Not a promise or an application date.

Which Teslas will qualify?

Tesla has not published eligibility. Its fleet discussion centers on newer AI4 (Hardware 4) cars with FSD; older hardware is unconfirmed.

Do owners really keep 70–80% of fares?

That split comes from Musk's 2019 Autonomy Day remarks. Tesla has never published it as program terms.

What will it cost to run a robotaxi?

Charging, cleaning, insurance, maintenance and FSD. Full-service depot packages for owners are already priced around $2,375/vehicle/month by at least one operator (MAT Co.); DIY owners would pay less but do the work themselves.

Is San Antonio an early market?

Yes — Tesla named San Antonio among the early markets for customer-car participation; Austin is live now and Dallas is next.
